Brief profile of Prof Uzo Okoye

PROFILE OF PROF UZOMA ODERA OKOYE Prof. Uzoma Odera Okoye graduated in 1989 with a BSc from the Department of Sociology/Anthropology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She was the best graduating student in her class and so the department encouraged her to apply as a staff. She joined the services of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a Graduate Assistant. At that time the Social Work unit of the department of Sociology/Anthropology were in need of staff and she was among those who were co-opted to do a Master degree in Social Work, a decision she has never regretted. Prof Okoye was a Fulbright Scholar to Boston College USA in 1999/2000 session and obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Phd) degree in Social Gerontology (Study of elderly people) in 2002. She became a Professor of Social Work in October 2011. She was and still is one of the founding staff of the Department of Social Work, University of Nigeria,Nsukka since 2007.
